Some weddings stop you in your tracks. This was one of them, a small and deeply personal summer celebration that brought family across the Atlantic and gathered them together in one of the most beautiful corners of Wiltshire .

When Madison and Stephen got in touch, I knew immediately that their wedding was going to be something special. Both Madison and Stephen live in America but travelled to the UK to get married as Stephen's family reside in the UK.

There is something quite magical about a small wedding. When the guests list is intimate every single person in the room truly belongs there. The emotion runs deeper, the laughter louder and the love is almost tangible. Madison and Stephen understood this completely and the evening wedding that they had created reflected this.

The Ceremony at Hatch House

Hatch House is one of those venues that takes your breath away the moment you arrive. Nestled in the Wiltshire Countryside, it feels relaxed and tranquil. The light in the summer is extraordinary there and on Madison and Stephen's wedding day it did not disappoint.

The ceremony was intimate and moving; Madison's brother officiated the wedding which made it even more special.

Family, laughter and the Spaces In Between.

One of the real joys of photographing a small wedding is that you get to know everyone. By the end of cocktail hour I knew who had flown in from the states and who was from the UK. We were able to capture lots of group shots of the family which were important to Madison and Stephen, equally we were able to have lots of lovely candid documentary photos too.

The Reception at Pythouse Kitchen Garden

From Hatch House , the celebration moved to Pythouse Kitchen Garden and what a setting it is. Pythouse has the most extraordinary walled garden with lots of lovely pockets of garden space surrounded by beautiful plants and freshly grown produce that is cooked and served on their delicious menu. Pythouse Kitchen Garden is the perfect complement to the ceremony that took place at Hatch House. The staff at Pythouse are beyond helpful and the food is sensational.

What stays with me the most about Madison and Stephen's wedding is the sense of how much it meant to everyone there. When family travels thousands of miles to witness your marriage, the rituals of a wedding day take on a different weight entirely. Every toast meant more, every dance elt more joyful. every quiet moment between the two of them felt more precious. That is the thing about intimate weddings they remind you what all of this is actually for.
